We’re here to serve our community

Thinking of Joseph's Project exudes so much warmth in my heart. From the PBJ sandwiches, to hockey played with news paper rolls and chairs. My favorite memory though, was whenever we were treated to a camp for performing well during the term.

The Christian values and principals that we were taught at the homework centre remains instilled in us to this day. Uncle Dylan and Youngmi definitely impacted my life in the most positive way through Joseph's Project.

Joseph project was a place where I could be myself. I felt free because once I left Joseph Project I always had to keep looking over my shoulder and always wanting to protect myself from bad people. This was the only place where I felt loved, cared for and valued. Although I was a troublesome child the teachers never gave up on me and for that I'm grateful.

This was the only place that kept me out of trouble as I always came here every day after school and I did not have time to wonder around the streets doing things that have the potential of ruining my life. It is also a place where I was taught about Jesus through kingdom Kids and I liked it as it was a very educational experience for me.

“So many kids have passed by, so many lives changed for the better. Not just a place to learn but a place to be and feel safe.”

“I spent my DTS serving at Joseph Project in 2003. What an awesome experience. I grew so much.”

Karina Castelo Branco

“I grew academically, and my English improved too. Uncle Dylan would help me to make a bridge for a school project from raw materials. I remember how happy I was back then. I’m now a police officer.”

Anthea Stynder

“10 year old me had very little to be joyful about but JP brought so much light and joy into my life. I'm forever grateful.”

My journey at Joseph project began when I was in grade 3 however only officially joined when I was in grade 5 ( due to my school extra curriculum activities). I had always wanted to join in since I had my cousin there and all my neighbors and close friends attended there. I remember the different faces we would encounter at the skate park, the old VW bus, and funny but some wise young people who always told us about God.

My art career kicked off when I first met my mentor through uncle Dylan and basically learned everything I know now. I was then blessed to be sponsored to further my skills in a well known art institution and finally now being a full time professional artist. I’m very grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned more so on God, but also for the support and patience I’ve received from the Jp community. I pray the organization continues to grow and help other children in my community.

Our Ministries

Homework Club

The Joseph Project Homework Club runs every weekday during school term, providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for local children to complete their homework and school projects. We cater for around 50 to 60 children from five to six different schools within our community.

Our goal is to create a space where children can learn, grow, and thrive academically and personally. The Homework Club offers homework support, access to learning resources, and guidance from caring volunteers who are passionate about education mentorship and discipleship.

Hosting Teams

At Joseph Project, we joyfully welcome outreach teams who are beginning, in the midst of, or completing their mission work in South Africa. We believe that every outreach is a divine opportunity to serve, grow, and share the love of Christ with others.

Visiting teams have the opportunity to partner with us in various areas of ministry. This includes working closely with the children in our Homework Club, where they can assist with schoolwork, lead fun and educational activities, and share the message of God’s love through words and actions.

Disciple Training School (DTS)

The DTS is a six month program blending classroom learning, small group activities, personal reflection, practical service, and community living. Most often, the training comes in two parts: Lecture phase and Outreach phase.

Lecture Phase - Know God more: In the lecture phase your focus will be on knowing God, His Word and His world. You will seek transformation, a renewed mind, and personal growth. You’ll learn not only from teachers but also from community living and practical training.

Outreach Phase - Make Him known: During the outreach phase your class will break up into teams to serve God out in the world. You will have a chance to discover your abilities as you care for people and share the good news of Jesus.

Celebrating Children Workshop

Wherever you go, you see people working with the children in their communities — investing in them, believing in them and giving them the skills for a better future. The Celebrating Children Workshop equips people to work with vulnerable children, beginning with the question: “What did God intend for childhood?”

Through conversation and creativity, we continually look at how we can participate with God’s plans for restoring his intentions for children. The Celebrating Children Workshop blends biblical, scientific, social and cultural perspectives in order to provide a holistic approach to caring for the well being of a child.

Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life.
